Dr Generose Nziguheba joined IPBO in 2021 with a focus on fostering research collaboration with Africa. Prior to joining VIB, she served as a Senior Scientist at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) where she led the institute-wide assessment of the sustainable land use key performance indicator, for which the impact of the institute interventions on the agricultural land is assessed; and managed projects on smart integration of legumes in small-scale farming systems. She has also served as an Associate Research Scientist at the Earth Institute at Columbia University, New York, where she coordinated the agricultural sector of the Millennium Villages Project, which covered 10 countries in Africa; and led various projects focusing on soil management practices for sustainable agricultural intensification. She has more than 20 years of process and applied research experience in agricultural systems of sub-Saharan Africa.

She holds a PhD in Applied biological Sciences from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium, and a Bioengineer from the University of Burundi.
